Flock's deep integration with Google Drive allows you to search for files in your Google Drive account, share them with teammates quickly, and even create new documents, spreadsheets or slides - all within Flock. You can also add multiple Google Drive accounts to browse and share files from any of them.
To make all that magic happen, you'll need to sign-in and give Flock access to files in your Google Drive account. The Google Drive app is pre-installed in Flock.
Add a Google Drive account:
- Launch the Google Drive app from Flock's apps sidebar.
- Click on My Drive and click on Add a new account.
- In the browser window that is launched, login to your Google Drive account, and give Flock the required permissions.
To share files from Google Drive:
- Launch the Google Drive app from Flock's apps sidebar.
Alternately, you can click on Google Drive in the Attachment Picker. - Click on My Drive and search for the file.
The app will search for a match in both file names and the content of each file. - Click on the share icon next to the file and select the chat/channel to share to.
- Flock automatically creates a preview of the file and shares it in the chat/channel.
To set file permissions:
Once you share a file in a chat or channel, you'll need to give channel members access to view or edit the file. You can choose to do this for each file, or set a default option for all files you share.
Set file permissions for a shared file:
- To give members 'read-only' access, click on the ellipsis icon, and Grant View Access.
- To let them edit the file, click on the ellipsis icon and Grant Edit Access.
Set default file permissions for shared files:
- Launch the Google Drive app.
- Click on the gear icon for settings in the Google Drive app.
- Under Permission Settings, select one of the options.
Flock will automatically give channel members view or edit access based on your choice.
Search for previously shared files:
The Google Drive app lets you quickly search for previously shared files as well.
- Launch the Google Drive app and click on the Shared in Flock tab.
- The app automatically lists recently shared files. Additional filters allow you to search for files sent by a specific team member and sent in a specific chat/channel.
To create files in Google Drive:
You can also create documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, and even folders in your Google Drive accounts - all within Flock.
- Launch the Google Drive app and click on My Drive.
- Click on the + icon next to the search bar and select one of the options.
Bot Notifications
The Google Drive app will notify you when a team member edits a file you shared.
Add additional Google Drive accounts:
- Launch the Google Drive app from Flock's apps sidebar.
- Click on the gear icon for settings in the Google Drive app.
- Click on Add New Account and authenticate using another Google account.
