The Flock app for Android (and iOS) allows you to stay connected on the go. However, some users report issues with real-time notifications on their Android smartphones.
This is because some Android smartphone manufacturers optimize battery for all apps by blocking background services to conserve power and extend battery life. As this is a device-specific setting, Flock cannot display a notification when its background service is stopped.
To fix this, we need to change a few settings on your Android smartphone:
- Enable autostart for the Flock app
- Enable notifications for the app
- Allow the app to run in the background
OEM-specific UI customizations mean that these settings differ from device to device. You can enable Flock notifications, just by following these simple steps:

- Go to your phone's Settings.
- Tap on Apps, scroll down to locate Flock and tap on it.
- Under Notifications, ensure that the toggle is set to ON.
- Go back to the Apps screen.
- Tap the menu button on the top-right and select Special access.
- Tap on Optimize battery usage.
- Scroll down to locate Flock and toggle the slider to OFF.
- Go back to the phone's Settings, tap on Device Maintenance and then Battery.
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap on Unmonitored Apps.
- Tap on Add Apps and select Flock.
- Once the Flock app has been selected, tap on Done.

- Launch the Security app on your phone.
- Tap on Manage apps, search for Flock, and tap on it.
- Check if autostart is enabled for Flock. If not, enable it.
- In the same screen, tap on Notifications.
- Ensure that Show notifications is turned on.
- Slide the toggles to enable Priority, Floating notifications, and Lock screen notifications.
- Go back and tap on Battery saver.
- Select No restrictions.

- Go to your phone's Settings.
- Tap on Apps and then Application List.
- Scroll down to locate Flock and tap on it.
- Tap on Notifications and ensure that it is enabled.
- In the same screen, tap on Battery.
- Tap on Battery Optimization.
- Scroll down to locate Flock and tap on it.
- Select Don't Optimize and tap on Done.
