Flock's user interface is intuitive and needs no specific training, even for first-time users. However, a deeper understanding of the interface will help you make the most of Flock's capabilities.
User Interface Panels
Flock's UI is split into five panels packed with features that make communicating and collaborating fun and easy. The five panels are as follows:
- Team Switcher
Easily switch between teams that you're a part of. You can sign-in to multiple Flock teams with the same email address.
- Active Chats
All your chats, ordered by relevance and sectioned into pinned and open chats, and muted channels.
- Chat Area
The current chat, all messages in it and the message editor.
A list of recent channels and direct messages, with an option to find and join other public channels.
- Apps Sidebar
All your installed apps, and a button to take you to the Flock App Store.
If you are signed into multiple Flock teams with the same work email, you can switch between them easily from the Team Switcher panel. It also supports keyboard shortcuts.
Flock bubbles up chats by relevance and recency. By default, all your chats are listed under the Open Chats section. You can pin important chats (direct messages and channels) to the top of the list under Pinned Chats, and mute noisy channels, moving them to the bottom of the list under Muted Channels.
- Message Counters
Any unread messages in a conversation are indicated by a message counter on each active chat.
- All Channel Feed
This is a feed of all unread messages in your active chats. The All Channel Feed is listed under Muted Channels.
When you select one of the active chats, all messages and activity in that chat (direct message or channel) is shown in the Chat Area.
- For direct messages, the top section of the Chat Area shows the name of the team member you're chatting with, a few apps, and options to start a one-to-one video call and add a team member to the conversation (this turns it into a channel).
- For channels, the top section of the Chat Area shows the name of the channel you're chatting in, a few apps, and options to start a group video call and mute the channel.
- The middle section of the Chat Area shows all messages in that conversation.
- The bottom section of the Chat Area shows the message editor, where you can enter your message, add emojis, and share files or notes or polls using the Attachment Picker buttons.
The Directory shows a list of recent channels and direct messages on the first tab. The second tab is a searchable list of public channels in the Flock team and the third is a searchable list of contacts - your team members. This panel can be closed when you don't need it and launched again from the Apps Sidebar.
The Apps Sidebar shows all your installed apps that you can launch with a click. At the bottom is a button to take you to the Flock App Store where you can install and configure more apps.
