Group chats are great, but sometimes, you want to discuss things with a specific colleague. With Flock, you can send direct messages to any team member, and start conversations. When you need more people to weigh in on a decision, you can add a few colleagues to a 1-1 chat to turn it into a channel.
To send a direct message to a teammate:
- Search for a contact (see #FlockTip).
- In the search results, click the contact to open a direct message and start chatting.
You can use a keyboard shortcut to search for a contact:
- Ctrl+N (Windows app)
- Cmd+N (Mac app)
- Ctrl + K (web client or Chrome extension for Windows)
- Ctrl + K (web client or Chrome extension for Mac)
Direct messages are best used for quick conversations on a specific topic. Or for questions that you want to ask just one person. For group projects, create a channel and add all stakeholders to make discussions and decisions easier for your team.
Direct messages are private. They are visible only to you and, well, the person you are chatting with. No one else can see your direct messages.
